Recently on a weekend trip to Barcelona I took time out to visit the rather grand Montjuïc Castle. It’s an old military fortress, with roots dating back from 1640, currently serving as a Barcelona municipal facility, built on top of Montjuïc hill in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain.
At the base of the fortress lies the most amazing water fountain. At night this magical found puts on a light display like no other. Crowds often come just for that, but its worth making the day trip just for the views from the top of the hill. For the brave you can even take a cable car up into the forest for a birds eye view. Alternatively you can take a different cable car from the castle back across Barcelona and down to the beach. Whilst that one is a seperate cost from any normal travel its well worth it, just for pulling on the nerves but make sure you time it right or youll be crammed into the cable car cabin with loads of others. Basically the earlier the better!
