Until you see it, you wont believe it. Royal Caribbean’s new ship The Harmony of the Seas is the largest cruise ship in the world. It is massive. Its like looking at a small town on one boat. I was invited along with my co-editor Anton to check out the inaugural voyage from Southampton.
A lovely welcome from some of the ships staff before we walked the red carpet and boarded. Once through the maze of corridors, we found our rooms and VIP media pack taking us through the weekends adventures. We headed up to the top deck, picked up some flags and cocktails and waited until we set sail. As the ship slowly pulled away from the dock, we waved the land goodbye and settled into a life at sea. Knowing there were loads and loads of things to do on the ship, we headed to the back where the terrifying but brilliant slides awaited us. You must try these, they really arent as bad as you think and its a very quick way to get to the decks below. We then took a stroll through the middle of the ship, and through Central Park. Either side of the walkway there are lots of restaurants to try out from Jamie Oliver’s to fancier eating should you want it. We decided to head inside after a spot to eat and took in some of the entertainment arcades via a couple of colourful characters. Then came one of my highlights, the bionic bar. Here you can make your own drinks via a tablet, upload the recipe to the bionic bars computer and then await as two robotic arms make your drink before your eyes. Absolute genius, and so much fun. So there you have it, a snapshot of what you can do on the largest cruise ship in the world. There is an incredible amount of entertainment that I didnt manage to fit into my weekend trip. If you are thinking of a holiday with a difference then this might just be the one for you.
