If you ever find yourself in down town Barcelona looking for a locally run, traditional restaurant you must try Los Caracoles. Founded in 1835 in the Gothic Quarter, the Bafarull family started the institute and since then four generations of the family have kept it going.
One of its stand out dishes is its chicken and chips. Yes, I am suggesting you bypass the amazing paella, and sea food on offer and try good old fashioned chicken and chips. The reason is that they cook the chicken in a secret way that makes it the most tender, juicy and tasty bird I have ever come across. Even though I opted for the beautiful and delicious dish of thick fish fillet on a bed of lentils and beans, the small sample of chicken that I tasted (allowed to have) was a stand out.
Of course we still made room for dessert, and again whilst the profiteroles were incredible the traditional and yet simple crème brûlée was amazing. So make sure you leave room for not just dessert but a visit to this restaurant.
